From 11 to 18 July 2020, Team TOC is organizing the WFDF 2020 World Ultimate and Guts Championships in Leeuwarden. The Frisian capital is hosting the sports event, in which over 40 countries participate in a men, women and mixed tournament.
As the location for the finals, the organization committee has chosen the stadium of football club Cambuur Leeuwarden. During the world championships in London four years ago, ten to fifteen thousand visitors came to the finals. CEO Eric Kersten of Team TOC, believes that the sport will also provide a full stadium in Leeuwarden.
Frisbee is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and holds the Olympic status of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This means there is a chance that Frisbee will be on show at the Olympic Games in the coming years. Possibly as early as 2028 when the Games take place in the United States, where the sport is already practiced at a professional level.
The bid of Leeuwarden was preferred to that of Australia and Canada.
